The Tesla Model Y has been the UK's best-selling electric car for good reason. With its spacious interior, strong range and access to the Supercharger network, it remains the default choice for many families.
On the road, the Model Y impresses with responsive steering and a comfortable ride. The dual-motor versions are seriously quick, with the Performance model reaching 60 mph in around 4.4 seconds. Even the standard rear-wheel-drive version feels effortless around town.
Range is a real strength. The Long Range model officially covers up to 331 miles, and in our real-world testing we saw around 290 miles in mixed conditions — enough for most weekly commutes plus a weekend trip.
The minimalist interior continues to divide opinion. Some love the uncluttered cabin and huge touchscreen; others miss physical controls. Build quality has improved noticeably in recent years, though a few panel gaps remain on our test car.
Verdict: the Model Y remains the benchmark family EV in the UK. It is not perfect, but for most buyers it is still the safest recommendation in its class.
