Second-Hand EV Market Grows 32% as Battery Confidence Improves

The UK second-hand EV market grew by 32% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same period last year, according to industry data. Used EV prices have stabilised after several years of rapid depreciation, giving buyers more confidence.

Battery health is the key concern for most used EV shoppers. Fortunately, modern EV batteries typically retain 85-90% of their capacity after 100,000 miles, and most manufacturers offer 8-year warranties on the battery pack.

Dealers report that certified pre-owned programmes are helping to reassure buyers. Many now include battery health reports and extended warranties, bridging the gap between new and used.

With prices of used EVs now comparable to equivalent petrol models, running costs often tip the balance. Home charging can cut fuel costs by 70% or more, while servicing costs are typically lower for EVs.
