Octopus Intelligent Go vs EDF GoElectric — which tariff wins?

I'm switching energy supplier and can't decide between Octopus Intelligent Go (8p/kWh, 23:30-05:30) and EDF GoElectric (6.99p/kWh, 23:00-06:00). EDF looks cheaper on paper but Octopus has the smarter charging integration.

Anyone on either tariff in 2026? How's the smart scheduling actually working — and does the lower EDF rate make up for the less clever automation?

Quick numbers: at 10,000 miles/yr and ~3.5 mi/kWh you'd use about 2,860 kWh at home. EDF saves roughly £30-40/year over IOG on pure unit rates before standing charges — but Octopus can shift charging into cheap slots automatically, which matters if you can't always plug in at night. Check your charger compatibility for each.

On IOG since March. The app sometimes slots my charge mid-afternoon on solar-heavy days (I think that's their grid balancing), which is fine since it's still 8p or less. EDF's 7-hour window is nice and simple though.

One more option worth adding to the mix: E.ON Next Drive Smart dropped to 6.9p/kWh (00:00-06:00) in August 2026. It needs a compatible car or charger, but if your home setup qualifies it's now the cheapest smart tariff we've verified this month. I'd compare all three against your actual charging pattern before switching.
